Franklin & Marshall College FAQ

How do I make a contribution?

A contribution can be made by simply clicking on the blue "Make A Gift" button toward the top of the page, or one of the buttons with a preset dollar amount or designation.

I keep hearing about the CARES Act and an above-the-line deduction. What does this mean?

Under the recently passed CARES Act, non-itemizers are eligible for a special $300 charitable contribution deduction in 2020. If you do not itemize your deduction in 2020, you can still reduce your taxable income by up to $300 for contributions of cash to public charities. A married couple can reduce taxable income by $600 for these contributions.

Is my donation tax-deductible?⁣

It depends. Many gifts are 100% tax-deductible. Some projects associate “perks” gifts of given values. If the perk has a fair market value, that amount will decrease the total amount of your gift that will be tax-deductible. If this is the case, the value of the perk will be noted on the project page. With gifts of any size, you are always able to decline the associated perk to have your gift be 100% tax-deductible.⁣

The tax-deductible value of your gift will be noted on the emailed receipt you receive immediately after making the gift.⁣
